I think we see the face of God darkly now, we shall see God face to face someday…
St. Thomas Aquinas says in his Summa that we can use the liberal arts to have the God-experience.
I think art, philosophy etc. can help us in that direction…please see my post on that:

The issue with me lately is…. I tend to seek a beautiful face … a look which can give me peace… however, when I take out time to reflect…. it leaves me feeling ugly… I don’t doubt His Beauty of Kindness…. It just I am failing to see it these days…
what would you do … if this happened to you?

I’d still persist in finding the beauty in the so called ugliness. Everything is beautiful…everything has symmetry, even that which seems so chaotic. Since God is everywhere, nothing is ugly…but then what I say may be for you right now an abstraction, so my heart goes out to you in your pain.
