Lectio Divina, or daily seeings
To soothe thy spirit…

Reading 241, from Francis William Bourdillons

The night has a thousand eyes,
And the day but one;
Yet the light of the bright world dies
With the dying sun.

The mind has a thousand eyes,
And the heart but one;
Yet the light of a whole life dies,
When love is done.

Francis William Bourdillon

My notes:

Our minds cannot even conceive of the sun ever burning out; it is simply unthinkable. A life without love is similarly catastrophic. This neglected but beautiful poem was first mentioned to me by my Professor at College, the great P.Lal.
