Reading 175, from the Rabbi Hillel

Hillel

A seeker went to Shamai, the strict Rabbi, to become a follower. He asked Shamai to teach him Judaism while standing on one leg. Shamai chased him out taking the Gentile to be a trouble-creator.

The seeker went to Hillel, known throughout for his compassion and broad-mindedness. When confronted with the same question, this is what Hillel answered:

That which is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbor. That is the whole Torah; the rest is the explanation; go and learn.

My notes:

This above is traditionally known as the Negative Golden Rule. After all, what is religion but not hurting others. Everything else is stuff and nonsense.
