Reading 140, from Ursula Le Guin
March 26, 2008

Love doesn’t just sit there, like a stone; it has to be made, like bread, remade all the time, made new.
Notes:
I have not yet read any Le Guin. And I am surprised to read this line, which I found scribbled in a gift I received today. She is a science fiction writer and we expect her to write about aliens, time-travel and all that nonsense
. Yet here she is , more perceptive than many a classicist who whines about human relationships. Also it is my experience that fantasy and sci-fi writers are far more worth a reader’s time than those whose imagination cannot move beyond their cots. LOL.

Her novels are filled with thoughtful spirit and are often about the deeper nature of being human and alive and not knowing why. Especially among Science Fiction/Fantasy writers, she tackles the big themes. I have read a lot of her books, novels and short stories. I have never read one that did not change me a little. See the short story “Solitude” or the Earthsea books or anything she has written. It is all intelligent and wise and nicely written.

An excellent and true quote from one of my favorite Sci-Fi writers
