Seeing 104, Saint, Scholar & Brother
Robert Cal Whiting cfc

I consider my life blessed by having been very colse to this man. He is one of those men who are our unknown Saints.
I got to know him at a time when I was very young, 12 & he was near death…
I have his letters written to me when he had been briefly in Australia. I shall be posting them in sequence in the coming days…also I intend to study his life in some detail here….
A great Man and a great Christian Brother.
Contrary to what people say, Brothers like him never wanted to convert anyone, neither did their students love them because of any homophilia on the formers’s sides.
I remain a Hindu and, I believe a firmer one at that, Because God deigned me to live with a Saint.
I was with him daily for over 3 years, every single day for at least 2 hours…
In fact, I suspect that the constellation of Brothers who were there in my schooldays were very holy…not symbolically, but just plain saintly — Bros. Jus Harrison, Jerome Kelly, Joel, Baptist Finn
Thanks Br Dominic Obbens for the photo.

There are such Saints living quietly among us all the time, usually unnoticed. Then when they pass away, the people feel an emptiness and can’t explain it. A fountain of love has left the world, and they did not drink from it while it was there.
Peace and Blessings!

What a beautiful tribute to Robert Cal Whiting and to all Christian Brothers. As an Irish Christian Brother and contemporary of Baptist Finn may I say how pleased I am to be associated with your compliments. I would like to add you to my list of friends. I presume your leave to copy your post into my own blog (as above).
