Reading 44, from St. Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
Amen.
My notes:
Often we forget the simple ways in which we can reach God. The heavy theology and the various contradicting philosophies seduce our restless minds…

Although I have always found St. Francis’ life to be truly unique and worth always keeping in one’s heart, I many times wonder whether his decision to leave everything behind was not founded on a certain type of “egoism” as well. Of course, he had the courage for such love, but the Catholic Church turned more toward Aquinas for its deeper foundations. Hopefully these reflections might be somewhat helpful!

Well he did what he did, even if the ego is involved, we folks can’t even do that. At least he has something to show for his life while I have nothing to show for mine. & you bet I have EGO !
Thanks for writing…
